*insert mission impossible theme music here*

Today I learned that to get into the FBI you have to be awesome.

Yes, it is a requirement.

I seriously spent a good hour researching how to get into the FBI this morning. I was imagining myself in aviators, carrying my metal friend on my hip, and looking supremely confident and cool while walking away from an explosion. What a life.

Really though, the FBI career path really intrigues me. It fits my personality quite well except for the artsy perception thing I've got going on. In the ahort run, I don't think I could handle the pressure of being pushed by other people to be better than I am. I like to push myself and it usually takes a pretty heavy desire for me to get good at something mentally and physically.

I want to be that awesome

The art of the Samari

....is jujitsu. Their hand-to-hand combat at any rate. It is one of the most lethal forms of martial art, combining strikes, kicks, locks, grappling, nerve striking and anything else you can think of. The Samari used it when they didn't have their sword and it has been around for 2500 years. Techniques are very similar to the art of nin-jitsu which was practiced by the ninja.  Lethal and effective even though it is known as the "gentle art" and is supposed to used only when necesary.

Awesome.

This summer I decided to join the jujitsu club on campus and it has been a hell of a ride. My sensei is a black belt in three different martial arts and is a little shorter than my humble 5'4". He taught defense in law enforcement and a whole host of other things. I cannot even begin to describe him in a blog. He's one of those people you just have to meet in person.

Anyway, tonight's practice was supposed to be a belt test but we didn't finish in time. Let me tell you first off that I am not very good at jujitsu. It's a lot like dancing and the coordination is pretty difficult for me. I have never moved my body in these ways before. Don't get me wrong, I'm reasonably athletic and active but I definitely have trouble with this stuff... Except for one thing.

Today I learned I can stretch my fingers more than a normal, or even abnormal, human being.

We did a number of finger locks today and everytime I could resist with ease which frustrated my sensei and brown belt practice partner. My fingers can stretch like a gymnast and I love it. Thank goodness that I've been stretching my fingers for years for piano. It's beomce the one thing I'm naturally good at in this art, besides the using as little force as possible aspect... I don't like hurting people.

A little self-discovery goes a long way. It takes a lot for me to gain confidence in this strange activity of mine and my awesome fingers gave me the boost I need. I cannot tell you how much I've learned about myself because of jujitsu (seriously, I could write a book about it).

Now on to do my regular fingertip push-ups. Gahhh

Two is better than one????

Normally I wouldn't write a post like this one  but this was just too good to pass up. And it's a new nugget of knowledge for my brain.

Today I learned that male koalas have two penises.

Yes. They really do have two.

No worries, female koalas have 2 genitalia themselves, so no need to start complaining about how God favors men or start a protest for equality amongst koalas.

...

I'm trying to end this post in an appropriate way while still addressing my many question about koala reproduction. It's not working.

I think that's all I have to say about that.

And so it begins

I'm wondering why I'm doing this. I don't have time to blog, nor do I think anyone has much to benefit from reading my blog besides an occasional laugh or bemused expression. I'm ok with both of those outcomes though so I guess it's worth it.

At any rate, the point of this blog is to write one new thing I learn each day. Every day. I mean, being in college gets you more than your fair share of new information, but I want to pay more attention to the life changing things I learn, the ones I should remember and consider more than I do now. Sometimes the things I learn aren't necessarily that important. Like this morning I learned/realized I'm an idiot when I make toast. I always wondered why my roomate's toaster would always burn my toast, and then I saw that the dial that determines how long the toast is in for was turned all the way to 10 and I thought it was a 1. I have been killing my toast out of stupidity. Sad morning, yet I'm glad this senseless massacre is at it's end.

I hate writing pilot posts. I think they ruin the idea. Like pilot tv shows. Sometimes they work really great but often they're so jam packed with background information and trying-too-hard-ness, they're lame and don't represent the show at all. We should all just get to know our characters as they are at the moment rather than how they became that way. That stuff can come later. At any rate, the point is, ignore this post (except for the toast part) and just watch the season from the second episode. :]
